You are never thrown in
New volunteers are paired with someone experienced. Government textbooks, flashcards and pre-planned activities are all provided, and previous volunteers have built the materials specifically to make the handover easy.
ECC is a registered NGO teaching English to over 100 students a week in Po Village, 5.5 km outside Siem Reap — and across two partner government schools. Every teacher here is a volunteer.
ECC (Education Centre for Community) was founded in 2014 by Savon and Savuth in a suburb of Siem Reap. We provide free education to everyone who walks through the gate — regardless of gender, age, race, religion or means.
Seventy-five percent of students in Cambodia leave school by fourteen to look for work. Our curriculum is built around that reality: it follows the UK ESL framework but every word of vocabulary is chosen to be useful here, so students graduate with the English they need for work in tourism and hospitality.
We ask for around 24 hours a week, which leaves you plenty of time to explore Angkor Wat, the floating villages and Kulen mountain. You will live in the heart of a local village and be paired with an experienced volunteer for your first classes.

Administration, construction projects, social media and fundraising all need hands. If your skills sit somewhere else entirely, tell us — the school is still being built in every sense.
You stay in the village, eat with the community and take part in local traditions. It is the part almost every volunteer says they did not expect and would not give up.

Such a nice experience. Starting with the Anthony, what he is doing there is amazing he has a big compromise with the organization and that people depend of him. Shared with kids and local people is one of the best experience ever recommended 100%.
I only spent two weeks here but would’ve spent so much longer if I could! Could not recommend this experience more highly – the kids are so sweet and full of life, and most of them really eager to learn. You very much learn on the job from the other volunteers how to best teach and engage the kids, and by the end of your time you are teaching the next lot of volunteers, so it’s an excellent opportunity to improve leadership skills as well as building patience, empathy and effective teaching skills. Anthony the host is so passionate about the organization, so easy to talk to and willing to help.
I really enjoyed my time at the organization Siem Reap. Amazing experience living in Cambodian countryside with local family. Opportunity to meet lots of international volunteers and have fun with the kids at school.
It was my first volunteering experience and I loved it so much! I’ve my practiced my English as well, communicating with other volunteers. I was teaching English before, but it was my first experience teaching English in English ! It was a little bit challenging sometimes, but definitely incredible experience! I loved the organization so much and I even extended my stay though before coming was thinking «2 weeks! – it’s too much» But no, time really flies! Food is good, don’t worry! & all basic amenities! You’ll have a great time! & also a lot of time to explore surroundings ! Hope to come back again! Thanks!
Tell us when you can arrive and what you would like to do. We will take it from there.
